Michael Jackson was an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Dubbed the King of Pop, he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century and one of the greatest entertainers in the history of music. His contributions to music, dance, and fashion, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.

Born in Gary, Indiana, in 1958, Jackson debuted on the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of the Jackson 5. The group achieved mainstream success in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and Jackson later launched a successful solo career. His music and elaborate stage shows, including the moonwalk dance move, were highly influential and popular worldwide.

Jackson's album Thriller (1982), remains the best-selling album of all time. Other successful albums include Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (1995). He won 13 Grammy Awards, 26 American Music Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Jackson's music and influence continue to be celebrated and studied today.
