Judge Judith Sheindlin, better known as Judge Judy, is a retired judge and television personality. She gained widespread fame for her no-nonsense courtroom demeanor and sharp wit on her long-running syndicated television program, Judge Judy.

Born Judith Susan Blum in Brooklyn, New York, in 1942, Sheindlin graduated from American University and later earned her law degree from New York Law School. She began her legal career as a corporate lawyer before transitioning to family law. Sheindlin served as a prosecutor in Manhattan Family Court and later became a criminal court judge.

Her television career began in 1996 with the premiere of Judge Judy. The show, which features Sheindlin presiding over small-claims cases, became a massive success, known for its fast-paced proceedings, Sheindlin's sharp tongue, and her tendency to cut through legal jargon and get straight to the heart of the matter. Judge Judy ran for 25 seasons, making it one of the longest-running and most successful court shows in television history. Sheindlin retired from the show in 2021.
